TECNALIA Research & Innovation is a private, independent and non-profit research organisation. Legally a Foundation, TECNALIA is the leading private and independent research and technology organisation in Spain and amongst the largest in Europe, employing around 1.300 people (225 PhDs) with an income of 100.2 Million € in 2016. TECNALIA is a key agent in the ERA – European Research Area. TECNALIA actively participates in the governing bodies of several European Technology Platforms, PPPs and JTIs (EEB, FOF, SPIRE, ARTEMIS, etc.). TECNALIA participated in 377 FP7 EU funded projects (coordinating 85 of them) and it is currently participating in 152 H2020 projects (coordinating 31 of them). TECNALIA is a member of EARTO and EUROTECH, linking together the most important research organisations in Europe.

The current proposal will be carried out by the Energy and Environmental Division, where more than 250 people are focusing their R&D effort to the development of technologies, products and tools for a rational and sustainable use of energy focusing on clean generation sources and future energy carriers. In particular, the Material for
Energy & Environment Area of this division will involve their researchers and facilities in this proposal.

The Ionic Liquid group has extensive capabilities for design, synthesis and characterization of different categories of ionic liquids including task specific ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents for specific applications (e.g. CRM, PGMs and other high-tech metal extraction, electrolytes for batteries or electrodeposition).

Additionally, TECNALIA is member of EIP (European Innovation Partnership on Raw materials), EASE (European Association for Storage of Energy), AMNA (Air and Waste Management Association), SPIRE (Sustainable process Industry through Resource and Energy Efficiency), and EERA (European Energy Research Alliance).
